The lights here show why Los Angeles used to be such a great place to spot streetlighting oddities, and despite in the past 15 years most of the fun stuff having been removed, there are still one or two bits left, even in 2025. This is Bronson Ave at W 5th Ave and despite the lantern fixture here looking like a private yard light, it is a city fixture, maintained by the BSL.

There is a run of 5 or 6 of these between 5th and 6th on this bit of Bronson. Historically they were multiple incandescent, but of late they have corncob LED lamps. In the past we have seen one or two of them with household lamps fitted, it's possibe the homeowners on the street were doing their own relamping! In the previous pic you can see an access door in the rear of the fixture for relamping. The latest GSV shows them not only surviving, but they have had new poles and bases installed so the one in the pic here isn't leaning any more. They always were unique in the LA BSL system and there is still someone in the BSL that looks out for these fixtures evidently, a great sight to see.

This I think is 5th Ave at Lorraine Bl, just west of the Bronson lights. The palm trees and CD803 poles with acorns make a nice pic, when the pic was taken they were series incandescent. Nowadays they are probably corncob LED or some sort of other LED retrofit, but the daytime look is the same as the people in the big houses probably were vocal about keeping their old streetlights.

Stretches of Wilshire Blvd were good places to see an almost unique combination of twin GE Form 101FR fixtures with clear mercury as the light source. There are other pics of these elsewhere on the site, use the search facility to find them. This is taken looking west from roughly the 4200 block of Wilshire. This is a good vantage point to see a long run of the Form 101FR fixtures which at the time, were series wired clear mercury, with the occasional coated lamp. Nearest the camera, the right hand fixture has a coated lamp. They have been since changed to multiple wired Lumec Domus fixtures.
