Nice to see these surviving in 2024, this is at Torrance City Hall (3031 Torrance Blvd).
Some incandescent PAR64 fixtures lighting the flags at the front of the building.
RemovedChecked on "as of" date (either in person or via latest GSV available), removal happened as late as that date or before
as of 2014
This is only just Torrance, it's the section of Palos Verdes Blvd between PCH and Sepulveda, part of which is actually in Redondo Beach. The fixtures themselves aren't too exciting, but the overhead multiple wiring and the old looking poles are unusual.
The last pic is Palos Verdes at Linda, looking north just before Sepulveda. The overhead multiple wiring looks more like something you'd see in the UK or Europe, not too common in the US.
Update Dec 2018: I've seen pictures from 1963 (copyright so not reproduced here) that the show median twin arm poles in Torrance like these, but with series wired teardrop incandescent
fixtures. Instead of the twin insulator arrangement with 2 wires, there was a single insulator atop the pole with a series breakout for the fixtures. This confirms the thought that these poles
were old and the system was series originally.
The uninsulated twin multiple wiring arrangement seen here was replaced with insulated duplex catenary cable some time between 2011 and 2014.
