This solitary monster sat on a parking lot on Aurora Ave. (Hwy99), north of Seattle at 135th St. It's been identified as a Sylvania GBB "Acre-Of-Light" from an 1967 Sylvania catalogue. It would have been fitted with 4 * 1kW mercury or metal halide. As far as I know, it didn't work.
It was removed not long after these pics were taken, an apartment complex was put on this site sometime in 2006.

14 years later, and a look at the area around the same Aurora Ave intersection shows a lot has changed, but some old parking lot lighting still survives.
To try and give an idea of where this fixture is compared to the location of the Sylvania in the top two pics on this page- the Sylvania is behind and to the left, from the viewpoint of these two latest pics.
This fixture is a Wide-Lite Mercury "4000", cat. number F-4000-ALB. It and its matching 3-leg pole is hanging on despite another apartment block being built (left of pic) on the parking lot it once lit. These are remote ballast fixtures, the ballasts in a box at the pole base. If you look at the fullsize pic on the right, you can see some of the 1kW mercury lamps are clear ended ones. Also, it is shaped like an octagonal doughnut, with a hole in the middle. Unknown if it still works, but hope springs eternal...

A little further north up Aurora, and this is a parking lot of a former bank building at N 155 St & Westminster Way N. A Revere 5442 Ultra-Lite fixture, and if you get the fullsize version of the RH Pic, you'll see off in the distance poles that used to have the same fixtures, but which now sport shoebox fixtures. This was a former Sears parking lot. This Revere is the only one left. It has not been seen working recently.
