This sequence of pics is from North Highlands, which is NE of downtown Sacramento, and east of Sacramento McClellan Airport. Watt Ave is a major north/south street that runs to the east side of the airport. There are several strip malls and businesses on this road north of I-80 that have old parking lot lighting. Some Form 400s are an unusual sight these days, whether on the roadway or a parking lot. These ones are on a stripmall north of A St - James Wy, and hanging on as of early 2025.

This is a collection of stripmalls at Watt Ave & Freedom Pk Dr, and a great sight to see, quite a few poles with shovel hat fixtures.

Jim went back at a later date and was pleased to see many of these fixtures including some of the ones with incandescent lamps, working at night. Looking at GSV, seems most of
them survived until about Jul 2015 at least. Amazingly, it looks like 3 of the old poles complete with shovel hats have survived as far as Jan 2025, although the mall has been remodeled and most of the parking
lot lighting refreshed. Some of the poles retain their quad arms, but with LED fixtures.

These pictures were taken at the former Red Lion Sacramento Inn, located northeast of downtown Sacramento at exit 160 of I-80 business loop, on Sacramento Inn Way. It was built in 1954 and was at the time one of the largest hotels in the region. Soon after these pics were taken in 2012, Red Lion sold the property, and it entered into a phase of decline under the new owners. It finally closed in 2015 after complaints over crime, and code violations. The site was cleared by July 2016.

These fixtures were apparently custom built for Red Lion by AAL (Architectural Area Lighting). I have seen similar ones at the Red Lion in Richland WA. Note the decorative C-7 lamps and the mercury lamp underneath providing the actual light.

Just northwest of downtown Sacramento, and running parallel with I-5 and by the river for a short distance, is the wonderfully named Jibboom St. There are some great old poles with NEMA heads and some of them have these shallow lenses. I think they are mercury too. More pics of this later in the sequence.
Pics taken July 2008.

As I remember this is Front St at O St, and the city has here a small display of some of it's old lighting, sort of a Vermonica in Sacramento.
