Mission Viejo is a long way south into Orange Co.,a couple of miles from where the 405 meets the 5. The lighting there is all HPS, but interesting in that it's a huge
installation of GE 'Mission Bell' fixtures.
It is a large masterplanned community finished in the late 1970s, and as a result all the streetlighting is the same- all single and double arm concrete poles with the decorative scrollwork kits, and the GE fixtures.
This results in a distinctive daytime look, so distinctive these streetlights even feature on the city seal. The right hand picture shows how the photocell is mounted remote from the fixture, and how the decoration metalwork is just bolted on to a standard arm.
The city all seems to be HPS now, well for the parts I drove round anyway. I don't know if it always was, or if it was originally installed as mercury. It would be nice to think that it was!
