Four Corners is apparently a name for the town of Kramer Junction, this unincorporated community in San Bernadino County. It's actually little more than a crossroads, where US-395 meets Hwy58 which is the Barstow- Bakersfield highway. There's a truckstop, some other bits and bobs and a few houses. It's right at the northeast corner of Edwards AFB. Anyway, on the northeast side of this intersection are a few houses, and these two interesting poles. There are two double fixture poles, with what I think are GE 101-D 'short globe' teardrop fixtures.

Here's a look at the other pole. One of the fixtures has gone, the other one is in a bad way, you can see the remains of a mercury lamp in there, the outer envelope is broken but the arc tube is still intact. Also take a look at the wiring. The exposed wiring and insulators would suggest series, but as far as I could tell, the ballasts for the fixtures were in the box in the middle. The fact that at least one of the fixtures (this broken one) was intended for series use, with two separate leadins on either side of the head, is a red herring- I reckon these fixtures were salvaged from somewhere, and reused here.

This is a look at the first pole, from the other side. If you get the fullsize version of the RH pic, you'll see a '6' designation on the left hand fixture- something which points to these having been owned by a city or a utility at some point. I'm also guessing the poles, and the open wiring, are older than the fixtures- look at the way the fixture wire is connected to the uninsulated ones. Wonder what was there before these?
