Fort Sumner is a small town in New Mexico, about 150 miles southeast of Albuquerque, where US-84 and US-60 meet.
It has one vintage overhead series loop left, along the main street (US-84). Most of the luminaires are newer cast style Westinghouse OV-20s.
The pole top regulator is located on Ave.E near 10th St, and the closeup shows the detail of the external open circuit protector that is fitted. This is wired to both primary and secondary sides of the regulator- if it detects that the current has fallen below a preset value on the secondary side (indicating a break in the loop) then it will cut power to the primary side. This prevents the secondary side voltage of the regulator rising to its maximum level, which it would do in an open circuit condition.
