Century City, Los Angeles, CA

SurvivingChecked on "as of" date (either in person or via latest GSV available), so can be assumed to be surviving at least as far as that date
as of 2018
Update Mar 2018: In the past couple of years, LED
replacements have started appearing here including lower down on Ave of
the Stars, as some of the series loops have been converted to multiple.
The replacements are similar ball fixtures, but are of a smaller
diameter than the originals seen here.
Los Angeles provides a
wealth of different sorts of lighting schemes, and Century City is no
exception. The lighting here is exclusive to this city, consisting of
spun aluminium poles with davit arms, holding 400W clear mercury lamped
globe type fixtures. This lighting installation was started in 1963, shortly after Century City itself was started, built on an ex- 20th Century Fox movie lot by the Alcoa company- hence the aluminium poles.

The whole project, not just the lighting, was an Alcoa project, and still looks remarkably good today. Even though they might not look like they provide good optical control, there is in fact an IES type IV relector assembly inside each globe. There's a pic of the insides of one on my LA2004 pages, here.
There's about 5 miles of streets lit this way, the pics above are of the main street, Avenue of the Stars. There are one or two other installations with these aluminium davit poles and globes that I know of, one at a Westfield Plaza shopping center in West Covina, and some streets surrounding it.
