An increasingly rare sight in 2022, this run of dayburning OV20s are located on Santa Monica between Wilshire and Century Park E. The view is looking SW, Century City is on the left.

The city has more or less finished replacing all the old mercury stuff within its limits, but one or two small pockets like this remain. In some locations like Wilshire, there have been two lighting refreshes since the pictures further down this page were taken. Once to replace the mercury OV20s with metal halide, and then to replace the metal halide with LED.

Above pics taken April 2017.
A more recent look at this bit of Santa Monica shows streetscaping works taking place (LH pic, looking south at Camden) and the inevitable lighting replacement that happens at the same time. Better news looking north though (RH pic, at Doheny) with the string of series wired OV20s still in action...but for how much longer?

Lots of cool old lights still in this city, starting on San Vicente just south of Wilshire, a GE Form 400. There are a few of these dotted around...

Update August 2011: Glen Norman reports the replacement
programme on Wilshire is now finished, all the OV-20s and old poles
have been replaced.
This pic above taken Sep 2011, and shows the
replacement pole, decorative kit to match what was there before, and
luminaire. The light source is 3500K (ish) metal halide, and has a much
warmer look at night than the old mercury fixtures.
